Visual Studio 2010 to bring technology refresh

Microsoft has announced the availability of Visual Studio 2010. With a slew of new features and advancements in the product, the company expects to bring old customers back to the shop, which are still allied with the legacy versions.

“ Visual Studio 2010 is strategically placed in terms of pricing and features,” said S Somasegar, senior vice president, Developer division, Microsoft,

He added, “We have simplified the entire line-up of the product into professional, premium and ultimate and are offering 12 months free membership of MSDN program to our Visual Studio 2010 customer.”

A lot of developers do use Visual Studio 2005, but the new version will in sync with the main pain-points of developers like the interruption, limited collaboration and the challenge to stay updated with the developments.

Bhageerathi D R, Vice president and head, Microsoft technology practice, IT services, Mindtree, said, “The new product has got the end-to-end features like structured testing and reverse engineering of codes, which is a lot of time saving.”

According to partners, Visual Studio 2010 is right at its pricing and features, and availability of tools to partners even before the launch of the product, has helped them to get their products ready on time.

Mark Conway, director of development, Micro focus said, “ It used to be a tedious job to launch the product based on the beta, because the final products used to be very different form the first beta version. This time, Microsoft ‘s Visual Studio 2010 tools were available with us before thee launch. This helped us to get ready with our line of products that can seamlessly work with Visual Studio 2010.”

Ubuntu's Karmic Koala bares fangs at Windows 7

Review Ubuntu 9.10 - aka Karmic Koala - is taking the fight to Microsoft and its new Windows 7 operating system.

The Koala - due for its official release today - brings faster boot times, a revamped software installer, better disk encryption, online services, and quite a bit more to the popular Linux desktop.

We took the release candidate for a spin and are happy to report that while work remains, Ubuntu 9.10 has plenty of improvements and that it's well worth upgrading your current system.






For long-time Ubuntu fans, the most immediately noticeable change in Karmic Koala will likely be the new Software Center, the graphical utility for package management which replaces the traditional GNOME Add/Remove tool.

As it stands with the 9.10 release Software Center doesn't really do anything Add/Remove didn't, but the interface is considerably cleaner and will likely be easier for Linux newbies to navigate.

More interesting is where Canonical plans to go with Software Center in future releases. The goal is to eventually replace Synaptic, gdebi, some parts of the Computer Janitor, and possibly the Update Manager as well, with the all-in-one Software Center. Ubuntu also plans to offer commercial software through Software Center, though that won't likely happen until version 3.0 - currently Software Center is a 1.0 release.
